Army of Anyone - Army of Anyone (2006)

This was a supergroup attempt when the DeLeo brothers from Stone Temple Pilots teamed with Filter vocalist Richard Patrick and Ray Luzier from David Lee Roth, Korn on drums. This definitely sounds like Stone Temple Pilots minus Scott Weiland, I'd be willing to say it's better than the new self entitled Stone Temple Pilots album. I thought it was strange Weiland didn't even record with his bandmates the entire time in studio or something odd I read in a magazine. Like the last track off the album "This Wasn't Supposed to Happen" it really wasn't. Patrick was preparing new material for Filter but, Dean and Robert jumped in on a guest song and the rest is history. Has a lot of different kinds of feels and it's surprising to hear great alternative rock especially from 2006. I'm sure if things don't work out with Scotty perhaps they'll be a sequel to Army of Anyone. Songs to check out "Goodbye", "Father Figure" and "Generation".

Stone Temple Pilots - Purple (1994)

One of my favorite albums from the nineties from first track to last this is a classic. It has the perfect mix of loud guitar and melody. Alike a lot of Stone Temple Pilots, I've been listening to them forever it seems and I could never get sick of them. My dad and I argue when comparing what was better Core or Purple and to my belief it is Purple because strictly the singles were better. "Sex Type Thing" is an amazing track from Core but, I'm pretty sure "Interstate Love Song" is the best song of the nineties and second most popular only behind Nirvana's "Smells like Teen Spirit". The album itself debuted at #1 on the billboards and was hitting the airwaves and music television massively. I think it's one of there most diverse releases they've done and every song has great choruses too. This is true 90's arena rock here. Stone Temple Pilots - Core (1992)

The debut STP album Core is an impressive monster rock album. Several hits and not surprisingly there best selling record. At first this record wasn't accepted in praise and critics kept on saying they were nothing but rip offs of Seattle bands and Rolling Stone Magazine has always dissed anything grunge and dismissed anything particularly good while they said Silverchair was the next Nirvana and Stone Temple Pilots were the worst band by Rolling Stone critics in an 1994 issue. I once read online that Scott Weiland had only been sober for only one album and that was Core. If I can rant against the STP-Pearl Jam comparison, I believe Stone Temple Pilots is the better band because of consistency; Pearl Jam had Ten and Vs as there best but, they are not better than Core and STP's second album Purple. I believe if Core came out a year earlier it would have sold more than Ten. I bank that! Core sounds nothing like Ten to begin with. Songs to check out "Sex Type Thing", "Creep" and "Crackerman".

Stone Temple Pilots - No. 4 (1999)

STP's 4th was there closest thing to matching the hard rockness of there debut album Core. Unfortunately, Scott Weiland had gotten arrested around time of the release. It can be said that this album has a little bit of everything the earlier albums had but, I think ultimately they found there sound after Tiny Music and that's why this one is the only Pilots' album that slightly resembles the effectiveness that made the other albums strong and groundbreaking. Yes, groundbreaking...they didn't sound like any grunge band ever and I'll debate that they fall into the category hard rock where they just wrote songs that were in a good time to rip off the grunge style which is bullshit. I think they sound more like Led Zeppelin than anyone. Sounds to check out "Down", "Heaven & Hotrods" and "MC5".

Stone Temple Pilots - Tiny Music...Songs From the Vatican Gift Shop (1996)

This album definitely brings me back to the time I was living down in the Bay Area. My father had this on cassette and we'd always listen to it while we went anywhere. I was looking through the used CD's at Rasputin and I crossed paths with Tiny Music at 1.95. It was a must buy at that low price. Sometimes you get lucky skimming in the unorganized used section but, I was pretty lucky to get it dirt cheap as it was on stands for a couple bucks more. It always seemed to me that STP's third album never got the respect that the previous two albums did. Purple and Core are great albums but it could make an argument of that Tiny Music can possibly have more depth than the previous releases. You can definitely tell there's Led Zeppelin influence in this album which is the thing I like about Stone Temple Pilot albums always sound different and none sound the same. It's a good idea for any band to make diversity a priority while recording songs as they did an excellent job of exploring musical talents within the band to go further into there musical capabilities.
